Referees officiating at the 2025 Club World Cup will wear body cameras for the first time as part of a trial initiative aimed at increasing transparency and enhancing broadcast coverage, FIFA announced on Tuesday.

The trial follows recent approval by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the game’s rule-making body. FIFA referees committee chairman Pierluigi Collina said the goal is to offer “a new experience” for both viewers and coaching analysis.

“It’s important to see what the referee sees, especially during debriefing and evaluations,” Collina added.

In addition to the camera trial, FIFA will introduce stricter enforcement to limit goalkeeper time-wasting. Goalkeepers who hold the ball longer than eight seconds will now concede a corner kick to the opposing team—an upgrade from the current six-second rule that rarely results in penalties.

The tournament will take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13 and feature 32 teams.
