JFK Assassination Files Shed Light on CIA and Cold War Intrigue

A new release of JFK assassination files has revealed additional details about CIA surveillance and Cold War intelligence methods, but left the central mystery unsolved.

The documents show Lee Harvey Oswald was a person of interest to the CIA well before the assassination. His activities in Mexico City, just two months before Kennedy’s murder, were being monitored, and he may have spoken openly about his deadly intentions.

Other memos explore the CIA’s role in shaping foreign policy and their surveillance practices, including the use of fluoroscopic scanning and UV-tagged phone booths. One document even mentions James McCord — later a key figure in the Watergate scandal.

While President Trump had pledged a full release, some information remains classified. Experts say that while this drop is a step forward, it likely won’t end speculation that’s persisted for over 60 years.
